What Is Stuffed Sponge Guard..?

Bharwa Gilki (Stuffed Sponge Gourd) is prepared by stuffing gilki with spices and cooked in oil till done. Gilki also, known as turai or sponge gourd is commonly available vegetable all across India. It is prepared in a different way in different regions.

Gilki doesn’t take much time to prepare and has too much water content. Bharwa gilki or turai makes for a good lunch box recipe and easy Indian dinner recipe as well. People who don’t like eating gilki also enjoys it when I prepare it this way.

Gilki, also known as sponge gourd is full of nutritional value and seems like a great recipe for a meal plan to bring in a healthy lifestyle change. Making this recipe in mustard oil enhances the taste. Besides that, it is good oil which helps to control cholesterol levels as well.





Ingredients -

  • 250 grams Gilki (Sponge Guard)

  • 1 tbsp Garlic Paste (3-4 cloves)

  • 3 tbsp Crushed Peanuts (1/2 bowl)

  • 1/2 tbsp Turmeric Powder

  • 1 tbsp Coriander Powder

  • 1.5 tbsp Red Chilli Powder

  • Salt to Taste (1.5 tbsp)

  • 1/2 tbsp Garam Masala

  • Coriander Leaves

  • 3 tbs Oil (for cooking)

  • 1 tbs Oil (for mixing prepared masala)


Instructions -

  • Take fresh and washed sponge guard (gilki). Peel it and cut in pieces with a cut in between.

  • For stuffing take garlic paste, crushed peanuts, turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, chopped coriander leaves, oil and salt.

  • Mix the stuffing well and fill in the guard (gilki).

  • Now in a pan take oil and place stuffed sponge guard (gilki) in it. Then cover the lid and cook for 6 minutes.

  • After 6 minutes open the lid and check guard with a knifeto make sure that guard is cooked well.

  • Serve tasty stuffed sponge guard recipe.
